What is it?
From the moment you enter the hall, you’ll know you’re in for something different. REWIND is a continuous visual and sonic experience from beginning to end. It's a journey through time and through the mind. REWIND will showcase internationally-renowned violinists Anne Akiko Meyers and Colin Jacobsen, as well as The Knights, a chamber orchestra conducted by REWIND Artistic Director Paul Haas.
Stepping into the hall, you’ll be enveloped by the sculptural and ambient works of visionary artist Kate Raudenbush and the electronic soundscapes of emerging digital sampling artists/composers Joel Morales and Joshua Penman. Once settled into your seat, you’ll experience a program that spans five different centuries, from commissioned and spontaneously-created acoustic and electronic pieces to music by, among others, Judd Greenstein, Schnittke, Schoenberg, Mozart and Purcell. Lighting and other visual elements will join forces with the music, creating a feast for the senses. And you’ll be right in the middle of the action, surrounded by the performers and the performance.
This is definitely not your grandfather’s classical music. This is not the classical music that whimpers from the speakers in your dentist’s office. It’s alive. And kicking. It’s going to grab you and start shaking. It’s going to give you what you never dreamed you could get from an orchestra concert.
And you deserve it. You have a right to be entertained. And we’re going to give it to you.
Why are we doing it?
Because we saw a need. Because we saw that too many people who could fall in love with classical music – and even some of those who already love it – couldn’t imagine themselves in a concert hall, with all of its uptight rules and formulaic programming. But we knew: if we built it, they would come. And we’ve built it – a concert for the modern age!
